Blog Post 3/14/21!~

안녕!~ Postproduction process

I'm using the editing process to create a coherent meaning from my collection of shots by putting transitions, organizing shots in a certain way, a music soundtrack, and screen intervals with text to contribute to the overall spooky, suspenseful mood my film Effraye has.

Postproduction technologies I used were my laptop, and iMovie.

The thing I learned about using postproduction technologies is it's hard work to edit a video to what you wanted it to be. And, that it takes time to produce quality work when editing. But, there are a lot of editors that make the editing process easier and more time conservative like iMovie gives you templates for trailers, and all you have to do is add your raw footage and organize it the way you want it to look. :)

I didn't need to consult any sources to learn about how to use the technologies because I had background experience on iMovie and how to use it.

Most horror movies have the antagonist's name, the main character, or the movie summarized in one word for their titles. I used the same conventions by naming my film after the doll's name (antagonist), Effraye.

I used black fade in transitions for the establishing scene because it emphasized where all the fearful experiences took place. The faded black borderline for each scene was meant to make the title sequence darker. I also used a zoom-in effect throughout every scene to create a build-up of anxiety.

The sound I used was just one soundtrack of suspenseful music.

I added black and white pictures, of the actors that appear in the film, with a black background.

I did work from the influence that iMovie provided which was trailer templates.

I put black inked screen intervals with text that provided context for the next scene because it added suspense to the overall title sequence. And added pop-up pictures of actors that appear in the film. I also added a picture of the doll with haunting features at the end of the title sequence. I trimmed my raw footage to the significant parts that made more sense as I was editing and putting everything together.

The difficulties I faced while editing was a way to involve all of my group members since iMovie doesn't allow work-sharing meaning everyone being able to edit at the same time on one thing.

Learning experiences were improving my timing of footage trimming.

No changes were made to the editing part of my filmmaking process, it came out how I hoped it did. :)
