I used an iPhone 11 and Airpods throughout the whole process of filming.

I learned that using production technologies is very important for the quality of the film.

I didn't really consult any sources to learn how to use my equipment because I had background knowledge on how to use the technologies I used.

I used the sun to my advantage when recording my shots.

Most of my shots were medium close-ups and medium shots with tracking. I also thought an over the shoulder shot was more appropriate for when the MC was walking up to their house, and when the main supporting character opened the door for him. I had a basic establishing shot added to my title sequence because the idea I had for my editing called for one. 

The difficulties that were encountered along the way were meeting up problems; for instance, we would all agree to meet up a day but when the day actually came one person would bailout. It took us a while to finally meet up to start our filming, which is something we need to work on in the future. Another difficulty was the editing software, one of my group members forgot their login and the other one wasn't joined in the class and neither were I; so we had to use a new editor, which was iMovie. 

The a-ha moments were when we kept laughing each time I started recording because we weren't used to being so serious. And some learning experiences were improving the memorization of lines as well as planning how I'm going to shoot a scene regarding the camera movements.

The changes we made were, almost everything, we had to improvise a lot and lines were changed quite often, scenes were cut, we didn't even get to film everything we wanted. Also, the locations that we were hoping to film at, we didn't get a chance to do so because of scheduling problems and transportation. 

Blog Post 2/14/21!~

 안녕!~ I will be answering my last couple of questions for this week's blog post.

Sometime this week, my group members and I will meet up at the park to film this one scene we have to at noon. Then next week is when we start to really go in with filming. At the start of the 4th week of February, we go to my house to film the scene in front of my house, then 2 days later we go to my other group member's house to film the scene in the living room. And over the time of the week after each filming day, we will all contribute to editing, and voice recordings. Then last day of filming we will do the car scene which won't take much time at all. We spread out our schedule like this because of the current pandemic, and we would like to minimalize going out as much as we can to further decrease our chances of catching covid.

A quality camera, editing software, a UBS specifically for the film, a phone for audio recordings, and a computer.

I think we are going to include dialogue and ambient sound, seeing as to how some of our scenes will be in a public area we won't have much control over blocking out the background noise. Some scenes will be in-camera recording and others will be used with separate audio recordings.

Blog Post 2/14/21!~

 Hello, I will be answering some questions today.

My film will be shot in a park, living room, in front of a house, in a car, on a sidewalk with random buildings. My group members and I chose these locations because they were ideal for the context of our film opening. And, we all thought these locations would be easier accessible than other locations.

I will be acting in the film, as well as my other group member plus another friend because it made sense to just use ourselves as the actors instead of going through hassles with other people we don't know that well. We just need to be considerate of times and dates and availability. Other than that there isn't really going to be many problems when it comes to our shooting schedule.

It will look kind of mysterious and feel anxiety-inducing, as well as sound like a scary situation because that's the ideal type of horror film we want to show our audience. We will use cinematography to create subtle meanings with shots, and mise-en-scene to create the tone of the shot. For example, when revealing a creepy scene we may use chiaroscuro, with other combinations of lighting to highlight the disorientation.

Project Storyboard!~

Today I will be explaining my process of the making of my storyboard for my film called Effraye.

I research the different ways I can make a storyboard look good, as well as the different websites that allow me to make them with my group. Although, the website I chose to use is called Storyboardthat, I was previously going to use was called Miro. 

I look at pdfs that explained what a storyboard should require, so I'm using those as a guide and reference to better improve my own. Every panel or scene square thing, I put camera shot number and angle, setting description, dialogue, sound/music, as well as editing. I did each panel's scene first, and then after, I just put everything that needed to be added, which was the camera angle etc.

Since Storyboardthat doesnt allow everyone to be on the same thing at once like Miro, I just used facetime with my group members and had them but suggestions and their feedback, as well as other things like tell me what was in the script. And I just did everything on the one account. That's basically all that we did :)

Case Study!~

I made a case study for the horror movie Annabelle, the one the production company Safran had a big hand in.

The way I made my case study was basically me using what I had already put in my past blog post. 

So I chose a film from a company I already had enough background information on which was the Safran company. 

And I just answered the questions that were provided for me and put it into a PowerPoint presentation.

I used pictures of Annabelle films as background to give it more feeling and more engaging.

I had to research things like the target audience and history for the movie Annabelle, production, distributers, the marketing behind the movie, and research of synergy.

Next to a building – Night

In the quiet streets somewhere in Florida, A man is walking home after a long stressful day at work.

RYAN, a White-Collar worker, in his 20s; exhausted and worn out, walks down the sidewalk

RYAN

*sighs* If I would have known how stressful and tiring work would be today, I wouldn’t have accepted to have extra hours.

Ryan makes a stop feeling an ominous presence making him shiver in fear; looking down at a trash can right next to him looking inside and looks to see a doll sitting there staring back. As he is oddly drawn to the doll he chuckles.

RYAN

What a creepy little doll, I bet my friends will get a laugh at it if I take it with me.

Just my luck too I was bored out of my mind.

A beige colored Bungalow – Night

Ryan steps onto the porch of his house; searching for his keys in his pocket the door opens.

LISANNA, in her late 20s, one of Ryan’s closest friends, with a smile on her face greets Ryan

LISANNA

Well! If it isn’t Ryan how may I help you on this lovely night?

Ryan confused

RYAN

Uh If I’m not mistaken this is my house.

LISANNA

Right! Now hurry up and get in here we didn’t crash at your place for you not to join us.

As Ryan walks in the house, while Lisanna closes the door and sits down on the couch, Ryan sees another one of his closest friends on the couch.

JAYLIN, also in his 20s, the main jokester, on the couch waving at Ryan

JAYLIN

Your finally here and since you are here you must have brought something for us workaholic.

RYAN

Actually, this time I have! I come with a gift.

Both laughed at what looks to be a little doll and are confused on why Ryan would bring this home with him.

JAYLIN

Ryan! I didn’t think you would be the type to like little dollies

LISANNA

I’m more surprised myself! Is this a new thing you do? You could have told us we wouldn’t judge.

Ryan rolling his eyes.

RYAN

I found it while I was walking to work in a trash can and thought it would be funny joke to bring it. Maybe Lisanna can give it to her cousin or something.

Lisanna still laughing.

LISANNA

Ryan come on not even a child would like this this doll I mean look at it, it’s dirty and creeping me out

JAYLIN

I got to say I agree with Lisanna on this one it’s kind of too creepy to give to a child.

Well I’m not keeping it here take it with you Jaylin, I dare you.

No, I double dare Lisanna to take it with her.

LISANNA

No! Why me!?

JAYLIN

If that your scared, you can call me for help, and I’ll come to the rescue! SUPERHERO JAYLIN!

LISANNA

I’m not scared! The doll just adds a bad vibe to it, but I will not let you two think I’m sacred of a little doll, so I’ll accept your immature dare. I have to go anyways.

Lisanna stands up from the couch and takes the doll with her to the car in the driveway; gets in the car tosses the doll in the passenger seat and starts the car.

LISANNA

It is just a doll, right?

Ryan and Jaylin on the porch waving goodbye as Lisanna drives out of the driveway and drives home.

RYAN

I think you went to far on your joke Jaylin. She might not get sleep tonight.

Ryan said worriedly

JAYLIN

I’m sure she’ll be fine she’s a brave person and we both can agree on that.

My film pitch was in a form of a video but this is the Q&A in written form.

What production company are you pitching to?

I will be pitching my film to The Safran company

Title of film

The title of my film is called Effraye

What is the basic synopsis of your film?

The main protagonist discovers a creepy doll in a trash can. The protagonist is somehow drawn to the doll and takes it out. They show it to their friends, and they suggest one of them take it home. The 2nd friend takes it home, even though they were creeped out by it. After a couple days of inactivity from the doll, the 2nd friend starts to notice strange things happening. Things were missing, misplaced, destroyed, and other weird occurrences. The 2nd friend tries to get the 1st friend to take the doll home with them, but 1st friend refused. After a couple weeks of creepy things happening, the 2nd friend set up spy cams around her house to catch action of what was happening. Somehow all the cameras stopped working, so nothing was recorded. 2nd friend dies after she accidently finds the doll trying to kill her dog. Main protagonist and 1st friend mourn the death of their friend, they naturally got closer due to their beloved friends’ death. The doll was passed down to the 1st friend as memory, and incidents start happening at their house too. This time a lot faster and creepier. 1st friend tells main how 2nd friend kept telling her to take the doll and that it was haunted before she passed. They both concluded, kill the doll so nothing like that will happen again. The both prepared for the worst to happen. Some other stuff happens and some more stuff happen. They were able to subdue the doll after coming close to near death experiences. As they were trying to kill the doll, the 1st friend lost their life during chaos. Main protagonist is all alone now, with painful memories thinking if she hadn't picked up that doll from the trash her friends wouldn't have died. Some years pass and she's gotten somewhat passed it, she has a job, a boyfriend, and is living her life normally. At the end of film opening it will show the doll coming back to life and going back in the same very trash can being picked up by another person, showing it to their friends.

Why do you think this production company would be a good fit to make your film?

The Safran Company made Annabelle, which is a horror movie about a haunted doll, along with other very famous horror movies. The brand of my film does align with the Annabelle movie they made. This company is quite well off with experience, funds, communication, etc. Therefore, I believe they do have the right resources to support my film and make it shine by using their abilities.

What kind of budget will your film require?

My film will require about 2,400 dollars. Considering good editors and other crew stuff, and good software, along with equipment.

How do you plan to pursue distribution for your film?

I plan on doing my best to make quality work but still save left over money. I think I would need to find a sperate distribution company. The one I have in mind is Warner. Bros Entertainment.

I’m not sure what a festival circuit is, I’ve researched it and I still cant find anything.

What else do you want your company to know about your project? Why is your offer and attractive one?

I want my company to know that my film isn’t just about scaring people, It’s also about forming close bonds with friends.
